Kid Quotes 2011

In 2010, one of my new year resolutions was to write down all of the meaningful or funny quotes from the boys. I was really good at writing every single worthy quote down. I slacked off in 2011 though. I only jotted a quote here and there on Facebook. So, I went back on FB and collected some of the quotes and tried to be better the last few weeks at getting back in the habit of recording these sweet words. Here's what I have for 2011:

January 2011

-James, "who messed that sticker up?" Me, "I don't know." James, "I did. But that's okay. I made a mistake. Everybody makes mistakes."

May 2011

-James said to my mom before she slept in his bed during her visit, "try not to teetee in my bed tonight, okay?"

June 2011

-James calls Gatorade "Alligatorade"...says "freaking in" instead of freaking out and "bring it off" instead of bring it on.

October 2011

-James said, when he met Jude for the first time in the hospital, "awww...he's so fuzzy (petting Jude's head)...just like a kitty!"

-When James came to see Jude in the hospital for the second time after birth, he said, "Jude's still OUT [of my belly]!!!"

-(Jason) After the first day home with Jude (a Saturday), we woke up a little past 8 to Jack and James opening our door beaming and bursting with excitement to tell us all the things they did by themselves (eat, dressed, etc. ).
Later I told jack how impressed and appreciative we were and how I wish we could do something to express our gratitude (I was thinking something like breakfast somewhere fun). Jack said: "Oh, you don't have to do anything - just saying you appreciated it is enough." I almost wanted to cry!

-James, "Dad, what's this?" Jason, "It's dog shampoo." James, "can we wash Potter?" Jason, "Not right now, it's kind of a pain in the butt." James, "then let's skip her butt."

November 2011

-Me to James, "you know I think you're so cute!?!" James, "yah, I wish there were lots of me all over the world so I can share how cute I am."

-Upon entering the movie theater, James ran to the ticket lady and whispered to her, "We don't have to buy candy here because we already bought some and it's in my mom's purse."

-Me: James, you know Christmas is coming up.
Jack: Yes, it's going to be a mad house... We already have tons of toys

December 2011

-Jack to his friend Laina, "I think James and I will probably hang out a lot when we're teenagers. 'Hang out' is like 'playing together' but the teenage version."

-Jack, "girls that buy lipstick are pretty vain. The vainest girls are on tv." (I had no idea he knew what the word 'vain' meant)

-Jack said about James, "I'll tell you the ingredients of James...he's 20% love and 90% drama."

-Me, "you can only wear those shoes on certain days." James, "is today a certain day?"

First of Many Laughs

It warms my heart to hear Jude becoming so vocal. And what's even better are his first laughs which I know are the first of many to come in this family! I had to catch this on video to show Jason what I was talking about. Jude did this a couple of days ago and I unsuccessfully tried to get him to laugh again for Jason later that day. I got big smiles, but not the laugh. So, I had to catch him on camera this time! Excuse the camera movement.

Beaux The Elf

Our elf, Beaux, returned shortly after Thanksgiving. I love this tradition. This is our second year and we're having even more fun this year, than last year.

Here's a little bit if what our elf has been up to:




He traded out our stockings for underwear! Even Jude's diaper was hung with care!


Beaux got into my bag of fake snow and made a snow angel.


He made his own fishing pole out of a candy cane and fished for red goldfish in green toilet water!


Beaux surely made some silly faces on two silly boys!


A T-36 ride put a smile on Beaux's face.


He got the munchies one night.


He worked hard to find all the letter blocks to spell Christmas!

Hey Jude

My dad got to meet Jude for the first time! He came for one day the weekend after Thanksgiving. We all wished he could have stayed longer, but hopefully a longer visit soon.

We went fishing, and then out for some Nancy's Italian Ice.

The only grandparent left for Jude to meet is my Mom. It may be a while before that will happen though, because airfare from San Antonio to Montgomery is quite expensive. It's so sad that we don't live nearby. This sweet baby is one of three of my biggest accomplishments, and I can't share that with the people I love most.

The hardest part of the military thing is being far away from family. It only makes my own little family stronger though. I cherish them with all my heart!

Jason's parents came for Thanksgiving. It was so nice to share our home with them. We enjoyed the company! A classmate of Jason's from Botswana also joined us. He was interesting to talk to and we enjoyed his musical talents on our piano!

Happy Birthday Nan!

Today would have been my great-grandmother's 110th birthday! I'm so lucky to have met her and her to have been in most of my childhood life. Not too many people get that firsthand sight into prior generations. She passed away when I was 15 years old...the same year I met Jason (maybe she had something to do with crossing our paths)!

She used to keep me when I was little while my mom and dad worked during the day. She had a special spot in her heart for me, as I did her. I remember decorating her little bitty 3-4 ft Christmas tree with her a couple of years. I always think about her on Dec. 1st especially. I wish she could be around to see her great-great-grandchildren! I know she'd be proud.

Mama's Boy

That's what Jude is!!! Over the last week or so, his preference for me has increased. That's no real surprise, since I am his food supply! Although, little boys DO love their mommies!




This is him at 8 weeks old. It's amazing that two months have gone by already! Before we know it, our baby will be 1 year old! My how fast it really does go by!

We're so blessed with all three of our boys! What an adventure we're on!

Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving is tomorrow and I thought I'd take the opportunity to write what I'm thankful for...as Jude sleeps in my arms.

I'm so incredibly thankful for my husband. Without him, I could not live my life nearly as gracefully as I do with him. He is my rock, my sunshine, the wind beneath my wings, and so much more. He's the husband girls dream of and the father every child deserves. I love him.

Next, I'm so gracious for my three boys. There was a time I lived without them and those days were not nearly as full and complete like they are today. As a stay-at-home mom, they're my every minute life. I'm trying to cherish these days, because I know they're a blink of an eye in time. Jack is such a thoughtful, intelligent, old soul kind of kid. He's a rule-follower and is always thinking about how others feel. James is spirited, loving, and social with everyone. He is a comedic with a joy of having a good time. Jude is such a sweet baby. He loves his big brothers and smiles anytime they talk to him. He is an absolute blessing. I love all of my boys beyond measurement.

I'm so thankful for our health. I am reminded often by the importance of good health as I hear about cancers, childhood diseases, and other terminal diseases swarming into the lives of others in our life. It is with great gratitude that I take every healthy day as a gift. Because you never know when we may not have days as good as these days.

I'm thankful for many simple things too. Music, tasty food, iPhone, beautiful days, fall leaves, our house, family visiting, nursing Jude, my VBAC delivery, listening to Jack read to James, app for blogging, kids eat free nights, friendly neighbors, lazy weekends, fireflies, baby feet, pictures, greater than 5 hours of straight sleep, iPad, the boys getting along, Pinterest, crawling into a made bed, back massages, wearing flip flops, cloth diapers, hot baths, Moby Wrap, going to the movies, laughing with my boys...

The list could go on and on...which I am grateful for. I definitely have more to be thankful for than not.

Surviving Cloth

I made a decision before Jude arrived to use cloth diapers this time around. I attempted cloth with Jack, but failed miserably because I was uneducated on how to successfully cloth diaper. With James, I quasi cloth diapered using gDiapers. The insert of the gDiaper was either disposable, flushable, or compostable. These were great, but I really wanted to go full force this time. And with the Internet and YouTube, the information was vast. Not to mention, some help from people I know who have cloth diapered.

Jude is almost 7 weeks and I have not used a single disposable diaper on him since coming home from the hospital! It is going VERY well! We hardly have leaks and they are so cute!



Not only am I cloth diapering, but I'm using cloth wipes too! Surprisingly, cloth wipes are easy peasy! They work so much better than disposables too. I just cut a couple of receiving blankets into several rectangles, placed them into a Huggies wipes dispenser, and added a homemade wipe solution to moisten the wipes. After use, they go right in the diaper pail with the diaper. So easy!




The only extra effort made to use cloth versus disposable is the extra laundry. I have been doing a diaper load every other day. I could actually go every three days and will probably start doing so soon.



Good for the environment. Good for Jude's tooshy. And good for the pocket book! I'm sold! :)

Blogging From My iPhone

This is more like it. Maybe I can keep up with my blog now. Just maybe.

I just realized there is an app that allows one to blog from the iPhone/iPad! I barely sit at my real computer anymore because I just don't have time. I do most everything from the iPhone and iPad now. Pay bills, search the Internet, even print pictures!!

We'll see if this app allows for more opportunity to blog. At the playground, waiting in car line or doc offices...and of course while nursing Jude...the most time-consuming job I have these days.

I'll start by sharing a picture from James' Thanksgiving Feast day at school. He is doing awesome in school. He loves his teacher and is learning so much. He even started reading the BOB Book set #1!!! So proud of him!

Ice Hockey Melt Down (and Let Down)

The Group had a family night planned to attend a Pensacola Ice Flyers hockey game. The boys and I have never been to a hockey game...so we were very excited to go! I don't know much about hockey, but I explained to Jack that it's a little bit like his soccer games.

We enjoyed a dinner at a local BBQ restaurant and then off to the Civic Center for the game. The boys' eyes were inundated with food and souvenirs. Then of course, the hockey rink got their attention...and all of the pregame activities. There was lots of loud music piping through the arena. James didn't care so much for that. At one point later in the evening, he said..."can we leave so I don't have to see the music anymore!?" There was more than just MUSIC that he should not SEE!

It was a lot of fun until the game became more about boxing than ice hockey. I was quite turned off by the whole act. Grown men, involved in a sport that is inherently going to cause you to fall or hit another player. Yet, they seemed to be so offended when they'd fall that they'd start to fight. My instinct during the first fight was to cover the boys' eyes (the whole minute it lasted). But parents and fans throughout the facility were cheering and celebrating with their kids (young kids too). The song Hit Me With Your Best Shot was blaring over the loudspeakers! The refs stood back and watched in their "front row seats." The sad thing was, this occurred over and over. I lost count...and we only stayed for 2/3 of the game because it was way passed bedtime! Last I checked, good parenting was teaching our kids that sports are about discipline, respect, dignity. I thought this hockey game was a poor example of those things. It honestly bothered me as a parent. People around me made it evident that I should just lighten up. But it was just one of those moments that it was quite apparent that our society cries about the way things are (bullying, flighting in sports, disrespect)...yet, we are contradicting with our actions and reactions around our own children! And really, during a time that we're trying to teach a 3 year old how to control his "temper monster"...seeing grown men that have little control of their own "temper monsters" gives me little hope!

Jason assured me that he went to several USAF Academy hockey games, and there was no fighting. I was ready to boycott hockey for the rest of my life...but maybe I'll give it another try if we can go to a USAFA game.

We had a nice evening...but overall, I could have skipped most of that game.

Baby's 1st Pictures!

We went in for the 1st ultrasound this morning. I had a strange feeling there were two babies inside of me for a little bit over the last few weeks. This pregnancy has felt different from my other two. However, our ultrasound showed only one baby! Maybe it feels different because it's a girl this time?! Who knows! Most importantly, the baby looks and sounds great! He/she measured 6 days further along than I am. However, they won't change the due date unless it's 7 or more days. So, for now, the baby is due to arrive on or around 10-10-11! We're so excited about having a baby in the fall. Perfect weather for walks and outings!

James-isms

Just a few things I'd like to remember about James:

He calls the Hungry Hungry Hippo game,
"Hit the potamus"

His lego building broke the other day and his response was,
"This is redicaful!" (a combination of ridiculous and awful, I suppose)

If it's foggy outside, when we ask what kind of day it is, he says
"It's a froggy day today."

He calls magazines,
" mazagines"

James was upstairs getting his cup. Jason in the meantime built a little fort out of couch cushions for James. When James was at the balcony, Jason said, "James, wanna come hang out in my fort?" James excitedly said, "yes!" But then a moment later, he hid his excitement and said, "Well.....if I have time." Of course, upon checking his schedule, he indeed DID have time! :)

I'm so in love with him! He truly makes me smile everyday! And he's grown up SO MUCH over the last year!

I Love You...

Happy February! I thought this post was appropriate with Valentine's around the corner.

Jason and I have always always always said "I love you" to each other. Probably overkill in some people's opinion. But, to us, we don't think so. From the day our boys were born, we started using the words "I love you" towards them. It's one of the first sentences they both learned to say. We just always want our kids to know how much they mean to us...and how much we LOVE them!

What melts my heart even more is when I hear them say I love you to each other. It's happened a bit more in recent weeks. Today they were sitting together on the couch, watching a tv show while I was cooking. When the show ended, James said, "I love you Jackers." And Jack responded, "I love you too."

I hope they always love each other!
